Eating out in Padstow

Padstow has so many restaurants and cafe’s to suit all tastes,  I have written on previous blogs about restaurants where we as a family have enjoyed a good dining experience.  My favourite little cafe is Cherry Trees which is right on Padstow Harbour, in my opinion they do the best latte in Padstow and I love their scrambled eggs on toast!

Apart from delicious breakfasts and lunches Cherry Trees has an amazing mouthwatering selection of cakes! My family loves cakes and on a previous blog I wrote about a saffron cake which I bought from The Chough Bakery on Padstow Harbour, I tried to replicate this saffron cake at home but as Craig Revel Horwood would say it was a disaster darling! My sad attempt is pictured below I blame the recipe (of course) it was a James Martin recipe from Good Food magazine but only said half a teaspoon of yeast -no wonder it sunk in the middle! Don’t hang up your apron yet Mary Berry!

Another favourite of ours is the little cafe above the harbour called Green’s cafe, we like to play a round of crazy golf which is next door to Green’s cafe and then have one of their delicous cakes and a cup of tea whilst enjoying panoramic views of Padstow and the Camel estuary, you can see all the boats coming in and out of Padstow Harbour!

If anyone reading this has a foolproof recipe for Saffron cake I would love to hear from you! Perhaps we should have a who can bake the best saffron cake competition in Padstow?

Rick Stein’s baked lemon cheesecake

Rick Stein’s Baked Lemon Cheesecake

Rick Stein’s cheesecake recipe for July is on his website I haven’t made this yet but can’t wait to do so! My own recipe for a delicious, foolproof cheesecake will be on my next Padstow blog in August.

As I previously wrote on my blogs we have eaten at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant and the café in Padstow, and enjoyed the food, ambience and service and would definitely recommend them both. Also we have bought delicious jars of jam and chutney from Rick Stein’s deli in Padstow, my favourite jar of jam is the blackcurrant one, spread the jam on a slice of delicious wholemeal bread from The Chough Bakery (on Padstow harbour) and savour every mouthful!

Rick Stein will be signing copies of his latest cookery book Rick Stein’s India on Thursday 7th August 11-12noon and Thursday 14th August 11-12noon at Stein’s Deli, South Quay, Padstow. I saw the TV programme when he was in India and I am definitely going along to get a signed copy!

Happy summer!

Easter in Padstow

camel trail padstow

We spent a very enjoyable Easter in Padstow the weather was mixed with squally showers and sunshine, we got out and about and took waterproofs with us! We walked through Padstow which was bustling with activity from children crabbing on the quayside to families pottering around the many interesting shops or taking a leisurely stroll round the picturesque harbour, and of course the distinctive boxes of Rick’s fish and chips were everywhere and the portly seagulls looked on hopefully!

Padstow is wonderful for walking we took one of our favourite walks up past Prideaux Place where you can see the deer in the park and then down through the fields towards the war memorial.  Suddenly as you descend there is the most spectacular vista of sparkling water and yellow sand of the estuary, magical!

We cycled on the scenic Camel Trail, it doesn’t matter how often we cycle along this beautiful path we always marvel at the beauty of it.  The trail runs alongside the estuary and is truly beautiful whether the tide is in or out, you can see hundreds of wading birds on the sands when the tide is out including Little Egrets!

We ate out at Pescadou for dinner and we all enjoyed our food. As the most fussy diner on the planet, my family were delighted when I chose the fillet of hake with lemon and dill sauce, saffron cakes and samphire and had no comments apart from “this is so delicious”

To round off the perfect Easter, the guests staying at Little Egret wrote very complimentary comments in the Guest Book about their stay and will be returning.
